G4? G5? G6!!!

I Introduce you to the Gulfstream 650 (or G6 for the cool people).

I guess when you’re able to drop $60 million for a private jet you don’t really care whether gas is $4 or $10 as long as you make it to your summer getaway at the Amansara or your favorite Amanresorts destination.

We’ve all heard hiphop moguls brag about their Gulfstream 4s (G4s), and the top top top dogs even speak of G5s (193 sold). Let’s see who’s really the sh*t now. Gulfstream, maker of the G-series private jets, is now taking reservations for the G6… its largest, fastest and most anticipated jet to date.

According to a Gulfstream spokesman, demand for the company’s new G650 has far outstripped early supply. The company has received around 500 letters of inquiry, which include $500,000 deposits from prospective buyers. That’s about equal to the total number of G4’s ever sold — over the past 20 years. Gulfstream, a unit of General Dynamics, sold about 193 of the hot-selling G5 before it moved to the next model. - wsj

The sad thing is that Gulfstream can only churn out about 45 of these big boy jets a year. Meaning…many many angry billionaires are being told that they won’t be able to get their jets until about 2020. Gulfstream starts knocking out the planes in 2012. I guess if I had a billion dollars I would be upset if someone told me I couldn’t have my G6 first. Isn’t that the whole point of being a billionaire??

“A lot of very good friends, [including] friends of mine, are very unhappy about their position in the queue,” the General Dynamics CEO, Nicholas Chabraja, told analysts.
